The Advanced Manufacturing Office Issues a Draft of its Multi-Year Program Plan for Public Comment
The Office of Energy and Renewable Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) today posted a draft of its Multi-Year Program Plan (MYPP) for public feedback and comment. This MYPP is intended for use as a guide for AMO, as well as a resource to help communicate its priorities to stakeholders and the public. The document includes an overview of the structure of the AMO office, and a newly defined mission statement and goals. In addition, the MYPP identifies the technology, outreach, and crosscutting activities the Office plans to focus on over the next five years.
Technical targets are provided for each of the activity areas, along with a brief summary of why these activities are important to addressing energy related advanced manufacturing competitiveness challenges facing the nation. The plan also establishes targets and metrics for diverse set of RD&D areas that will provide a strong science and technology foundation with the potential to significantly improve manufacturing energy use and reduce the life cycle energy of manufactured products.
By targeting science and technology for efficient and productive manufacturing, AMO seeks to drive productivity improvement and growth in the U.S. manufacturing sector, and support the manufacture of clean energy products with sustained benefits extending across the economy. The technical focus areas align with the high-priority energy-related manufacturing topics identified in the 2015 DOE Quadrennial Technology Review (QTR).
AMO is the only technology research and development office within the U.S. Government that is dedicated to improving the energy productivity, energy efficiency, and energy related competitiveness of manufacturers across the nation. As a part of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), AMO supports EERE’s vision of a strong and prosperous America powered by clean, affordable, and secure energy.
Feedback and comments should be sent to AMO_MYPPInfo@ee.doe.gov with the goal of receiving input no later than February 10, 2017. A revised MYYP covering the years 2017-2021 will be released in 2017 and will reflect consideration for any comments received.
