Refers to the rates charged for the specific services which make up energy provision. In a regulated market, energy rates are typically set at a fixed kilowatt-hour rate, and this rate covers the costs of all services involved in electrical service provision. Because it covers all services in a single billed amount, the charged energy rate is referred to as a bundled rate. In an unregulated market, each facet of the energy supply and service chain is a separate service with a separate billed charge. While customers may receive a single bill which is paid to a single payee, that bill will usually list a number of distinct line item charges for different aspects of energy provision, which may include generation, transmission, distribution, customer charges and transition costs among others. The rates for these individual services, or the rates for all of the individual services combined, are referred to as unbundled rates.
