summer peak

Refers to a mid-year period, usually between June 1 and September 30, when the use of cooling systems creates the strongest demand for energy in areas with hot summer weather. Summer peak does not refer to the summer season as a whole, but only to a specific period during that season when demand is heaviest. Summer peak need not even occur within the summer season. During a year with a particularly hot snap in early June or late September, it could occur in the late spring or early autumn.
