regional transmission group (RTG)

An RTG consists of a group of owners, operators, sellers and users of energy transmission systems connected to the US regional grids who voluntarily coordinate planning and operation of the transmission facilities for the mutual benefit of all parties. Transmission facilities are considered a vital national resource, so RTG decisions must also be made with the public interest in mind. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission oversees RTG decisions, and assists RTGs in cooperating with RTGs from other regions.
