radiation

Any form of energy which is transmitted in the form of rays, waves or particles is referred to as radiation. In the energy industry, radiation usually refers to specific types of radiated energy which are be converted to thermal energy when absorbed by thermally-conductive material. Nuclear radiation produces massive amounts of heat when it comes into contact with living tissue, and it produces this same effect when water is exposed to it. This explains how energy is produced in steam turbine nuclear reactors.
