A warning given to public or commercial clients by a utility that the system is under stress. This warning is almost always accompanied by a request from the utility to reduce energy consumption until distribution problems are cleared or supply shortages are over. Power warnings are typically issued when appeals for reduced consumption have failed. If a power warning fails to solve the immediate problem, then a power interruption alert may follow.
