Advance warning of an interruption in power supply. Power interruption alerts are issued as a normal practice to customers of non-firm energy. The general public is given these alerts prior to a rolling blackout or planned outage as a way of giving sufficient notice to prepare for the outage. Without this notice, unexpected interruptions could result in loss of data on computer systems, safety problems in the service sector, and substantial losses to a wide range of industries when certain manufacturing processes must be completed within a limited period of time.
