An unplanned outage is any interruption in the generation, transmission, or distribution of energy which is not scheduled. Planned outages are interruptions prearranged on relatively short notice. Scheduled outages are routine interruptions planned well in advance such as those scheduled for routine maintenance or inspection of equipment.
