network

A cross-connected, multiple-access web of transmission and distribution lines, usually used in urban areas, which provides power to large numbers of customers and includes sufficient interconnection points to allow rapid rerouting of energy when demand or emergency conditions require it. Network is the term usually used to refer to regional or municipal distribution infrastructure; grid is more commonly applied to high-voltage transmission systems that feed these distribution systems.
