meter loop, meter socket

The meter loop, also referred to as the meter socket, is the sum of all wires and connections required to attach metering equipment to a customer's residence or place of business. This equipment usually consists of cabling, protectors, conduits if needed, and terminals placed both before and after the meter, and outside of the actual point where electrical cables enter the building.
