industrial customer

A consumer of energy for purposes of industry, usually manufacturing. This is one of three standard classifications for customers of commercial energy along with residential and commercial customers. Resource-based industries such as mining, agriculture, fishing and forestry may qualify under this classification, as may any other business that consumes an amount of energy that exceeds a utility's threshold level for qualification as an industrial customer.
