A non-profit organization primarily involved in public relations efforts relating to environmental issues. Formerly known for their highly visible activism on behalf of environmental causes, the organization focuses its efforts today on public consciousness-raising, media relations and lobbying efforts. Greenpeace has always attempted to maintain a non-aggressive, non-confrontational approach aimed at raising public consciousness as opposed to directly interfering with actions which the organization opposes.
