When gases prevent reflected solar radiation from leaving the atmosphere once they enter, they produce an effect on the entire planet similar to the effect of trapping heat and moisture inside a greenhouse. The effect on the planet is similar to the effect that a greenhouse's covering has on the inside of a greenhouse: significant increases in temperature and accumulation of heat-absorbing gases.
