Energy Policy Act of 1992, EPAct

US federal legislation enacted in 1992 which covers a wide range of resource and energy industry issues. This legislation paved the way for competitive energy markets in the US by opening access to regional transmission grids to wholesale markets, placing these markets under the guidance of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and allowing some energy producers an exemption to certain provisions of the Public Utilities Holding Company Act.
