Dictionary

energy charge, commodity charge

The amount on a customer's billing which reflects the actual energy they use over the billing period. Additional charges, demand charges for example, may be added for customers who require large amounts of energy at specific times or for short periods during the billing cycle. In a deregulated market this charge typically comprises only one of several charges that appear on an energy bill.
