A device attached to a flue (chimney) that catches and collects fly ash from flue gases. As the name suggests, it uses static electricity principles to attract tiny particles of ash to a series of collectors which store the fly ash as it is gathered. As late as 1970 these devices were quite rare, but today they are installed on flues used in everything from massive coal-fired generating stations to small medical waste incinerators operated by hospitals.
