direct access

A retail energy customer who can buy electricity on the wholesale market, bypassing their electric utility or default provider, is said to have direct access to energy. Direct access is generally only available or feasible for relatively large-scale energy customers, since a source of transmission and delivery must also be arranged in addition to a source of supply.
