Demand and load are used interchangeably when referring to energy requirements for a given customer or area. Demand is usually expressed in kilowatts rather than kilowatt-hours, since demand represents the requirements of a customer or area at a particular moment in time.
In practice, demand is typically calculated as the average demand over a period of several minutes to an hour. This is often referred to as kilowatt demand.
