A quality standard for air (usually indoor air) which is set based on the levels of contaminants it contains. The actual standard could be legislated or legally enforceable, or arbitrarily set based on whatever a certain party or group believes is "acceptable".
Contaminants which are measured to determine acceptability can include hazardous substances such as molds, harmful gases and bacteria, or harmless substances that produce unpleasant odors or otherwise make air unpleasant to breathe.
