Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, it generates power from sources like natural gas, oil, coal, and water. Mirant provides power to utilities, municipal systems, electric-cooperative utilities, producers, generators, marketers, and large industrial customers. Its revenues totaled $31.50 billion (per year ending Dec. 2001).
Mirant owns or controls more than 20,000 MW of power-generating capacity around the world. In the U.S., its generation assets are located near areas where demand for energy are highest, such as northern California, Washington D.C., and New York City. In 2001, the company marketed 343.5 million MW-hrs of electricity and moved an average of 13.3 bcf of natural gas per day.
