City of New York

Assistant Mechanical Engineer

Date posted: Friday, December 01, 2017

Job Details:

New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services
JVN 868-2017-313051
Assistant Mechanical Engineer
Salary: $57,877-$75,516

The Department of Citywide Administrative Services’ Energy Management Line of Service (DEM) oversees the implementation of municipal building and operational energy programming and strategy for the achievement of the City’s carbon emissions reduction goals, first established by the City’s PlaNYC Energy Initiative and further developed in the Mayor’s One City, Built to Last plan. This implementation includes auditing for energy efficiency potential, managing energy efficiency retrofits, improved operations and maintenance, and clean distributed generation deployment.  DEM also manages the budgeting, purchasing, and reporting on electricity, natural gas and steam for more than 4,000 facilities.

The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) seeks to hire an Energy Engineer to work within DEM’s Office of Energy Policy and Program Implementation.  The Energy Engineer will be responsible for coordinating, managing and reviewing energy efficiency reports and resulting upgrade measures for City-owned buildings in compliance with Local Law 87 of 2009. This position requires comprehensive energy efficiency knowledge, related project management experience, attention to detail, accuracy, patience, and the ability to see the big picture and make recommendations.  Under the supervision of the Director of Energy Audit and Retro-commissioning Program, the Energy Engineer will be assigned a portfolio of projects. S/he will coordinate with various contractors and New York City agencies and facility representatives, ensuring that reporting requirements are planned and implemented according to the operations and needs of the City Agency.  The candidate will:
•Coordinate the scheduling of, and oversee the implementation of, energy audits that assess the need for HVAC, lighting and other facility energy related needs, and that are the basis for energy efficiency reports;
•Coordinate all data collection required for project completion and maintain data files;
•Work with and manage outside consultants, provide interface between consultants and agency staff, and assure project schedules are adhered to;
•Perform technical review of reports, assess recommendations for energy appropriateness and consistency with local law requirements, communicate feedback, confirm feedback is incorporated, and approve deliverables; and
•Coordinate and oversee HVAC diagnostic testing for retro-commissioning projects.
