Job Description:

Facilities Development and Management seeks an Energy Management Specialist to perform work of a complex nature under general direction, for the Research Facilities Department.


Essential Duties:

Operate and program building automation systems.  Utilize the campus' energy information system to diagnose and troubleshoot building’s inefficiencies and make recommendations for repairs.  Calibrate, replace and repair field controllers.  Utilize computer (Johnson Control and Phoenix Control software) to operate plant automation system.  Answer and dispatch personnel for trouble calls.  Communicate verbally and in writing. Use software and hardware in computers and microprocessors for system design, programming, developing, and modifying existing systems and programs, troubleshooting and maintenance for the objective of creating an optimum system of operation. Perform database uploads and down loads to provide DDC controllers with current programs. Operate and monitor computer control system equipment; detect source and nature of system problems; make adjustments to change operating parameters of the system due to emergencies, malfunctions and change requirements or to optimize operations. Perform emergency corrections to neutralize alarm conditions and restore proper operation. Verify correct system and control sequence operations. May perform scheduled and unscheduled remote start and stop of equipment. Update air handlers' schedules upon request for air conditioning services. Import and audit data from a variety of computer systems and compile energy management reports. Conduct energy auditing and provide reports by accumulating data from multiple automation systems and/or software support programs. May develop macros and queries to produce energy management reports. Evaluate HVAC systems and implement changes to conserve energy. Review, modify and implement programming changes to building automation system to ensure efficient and effective system operations and conformance with standards and guidelines. Monitor and adjust process loops for optimum performance. Develop operator qualifications, training and responsibility parameters for continual operation. Train appropriate staff. Calibrate, repair and replace building automation system sensing devises to specifications. May dispatch trouble calls to appropriate personnel to respond to customer needs. Study plans, drawings, specifications and work order requirements. Troubleshoot power supplies, controllers, and transducers. Take corrective actions. Perform backup and restoration of critical system files and maintain archives.


Days and Schedule:

Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.


Minimum Qualifications:

Six years experience in energy management engineering or with building automation systems; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge skills and abilities have been achieved. Some positions may require Chloroflourocarbons Certification upon employment. Some positions may require a current Arizona driver's license upon employment.


Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with Siemens Building Automation Systems.

• Evidence of Niagara AX certification.


Working Environment:

Work in extreme and varying temperatures, restricted movements, confined spaces (tunnels, manholes, vaults), and intense noise. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 60 pounds is required. Work off ladders to download/upload field controls and relocate/install thermostats. Utilize hand tools (wire strippers, screw drivers, pliers, wrenches, volt amp meter, temperature/humidity calibrator) and power tools (drill). Utilize computer (primarily Johnson Control and Phoenix Control software, but not limited to other third party control systems) to operate plant and building automation systems. Wear personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses, face shield, gloves). Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential functions. Drive University vehicle and/or cart to job site.

This position requires working on call and stand by when necessary, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
